Been going for regular massages and looking to amp it up to the next level? Or keen to try another form of massage to relieve more deep-set ailments?
Why not give Tuina a try?
Introducing Tuina
Tuina is a form of massage rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dating back to 2600 BC, making it the predecessor of all other forms of massage that exists today.
To “Tui” means “to push”, to “Na” is to lift. This translates to a combination of kneading, pressing, rolling, and stretching techniques to stimulate the body’s energy flow and kickstart the healing process by balancing the body’s “qi”. Often used in conjunction with other TCM treatments, it can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including
musculoskeletal disorders, digestive issues, and respiratory problems.
The trick is to apply different levels of pressure on particular regions or acupoints or along the meridians, a form of accupressure that works in a similar way as acupuncture! This technique is normally used on the neck, shoulder and limbs, dilating the skin’s capillaries and increase body surface temperature.
More About Tuina
Tuina views the body as a system of interconnected energy channels, or meridians, that can become blocked or imbalanced due to lifestyle habits, leading to pain and illness. Tuina massage aims to stimulate these energy channels to restore balance and promote healing in the body.
Even with just one session, Tuina massages can have a holistic impact on the body’s overall health. The meridien system links the different parts of the body together, from the internal organs to the musculoskeletal system.
How Are Regular Massages Different?
Typical massages apply pressure to the body to relax muscles, increase blood flow and alleivate tension and stress. However, it does not claim to have medical properties. It’s also rooted in Western concepts of anatomy and physiology, focusing primarily on manipulating the body’s soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and ligaments) to reduce pain and tension.
How Are Regular Massages Different?
While both can be effective in promoting relaxation and reducing chronic pain, they’re suited for different types of conditions and individuals. You may check with our licensed massage therapists to determine which massage best suits your current condition!
