Introducing The Outcall Spa
Since our launch in early 2016, we’ve become the leading outcall massage provider in Singapore! Driven by our tagline, “Spa At Your Doorstep”, we’ve earned media coverage in almost every major outlet and strong supporters. Since then, we’ve captured a valuable segment of the outcall market, being the pioneer in the outcall industries, dominating the outcall landscape and direction across Asia.
When the COVID pandemic struck, our services continued to grow in demand as lockdown occurred and cautious customers appreciate the privacy and also the safety of having a home visit massage without leaving the house to minimise contact. Even so, this unprecedented global event became the catalyst for The Outcall Spa to evaluate our brand and how we can further value-add the outcall spa experience, both for our loyal customers and new clients who are looking to pamper themselves.
When Inspiration Struck
Photo by Darren Lawrence via PexelsDuring a work trip to Bali during the pandemic, our founder Amber Chong witnessed how the local tourism industry were suffered where many lost their jobs including the local artisan who dedicate their life to local crafts.
Photo by John Bastian via PexelsLocal artisans receive a lot fewer orders due to the pandemic, which impacted their livelihood and many artisans had to pivot to other professions such as GoJek or Grab drivers to make ends meet.
The result? Local arts and crafts were becoming unsustainable and were at risk of dying out by the time the pandemic blew over. Recognising this opportunity, she reached out to the artisans to redesign The Outcall Spa towels as a sign of support for fellow local brands. From a branding point-of-view, we were looking for a design that was truly unique to The Outcall Spa, while giving back to local communities regardless if they’re based in Singapore.
Embarking On The Crafting Process
While the initial design of this towel was conceptualised by our team in Singapore, we also took guidance from the local Bali artisans. The end result – a unique design that embodied the spirit of The Outcall Spa!

Hiccups Along The Way
However, not all was smooth sailing in the Land of the Gods. Since the entire process was handmade, a couple of pieces were quite far-off from the warm brown colour we initially envisioned.
The towels also required outdoor drying under the sun to create a vibrant finish. However, the rainy season meant the towels took a long time to dry between each round. We’re talking about an average drying time of minimally 6 hours per round!
Hence, when the final samples reached our hands, it truly felt like they were a labour of love that paid off! We mean, look at this beauty!
The brown colour represents being grounded in nature, like a soft blanket of Mother Earth enveloping you while feeling calm and serene.
Throughout the entire 5 months, we constantly checked in via Whatsapp to ensure we were on time for each deliverable. Aesthetics aside, the towels were also thin but breathable, soft to the touch and wrapped beautifully on the body. No two towels look alike, much like our unique makeup as humans!
The best part? Starting October 2022, our customers can enjoy using these towels when they call for a home visit massage in Singapore, all from the comfort of their homes. The Outcall Spa strives to provide total comfort and an exquisite experience to all our customers.
Our Learnings
In a world that’s ever so competitive, we can practise compassion and empathy and look to our surroundings for opportunities to bless lesser-known communities, while also creating something unique that stands out from the crowd! We’ve also gained a newfound appreciation for local artisanal crafts. By respecting their professional opinions and also incorporating our own vision, we’ve come together to create an end product that’s beautiful, yet functional.
